Late-Winter Plant Problems (And What’s Actually Normal)
If your plants look a little… sad right now — you’re not alone. Late winter is when houseplants test our emotional stability the most. Yellow leaves, drooping stems, slow growth — it feels like something is wrong, but most of the time, this is completely normal.
Plants respond to light before anything else. And right now? The sun is weak, days are short, and your plants know it. Growth slows, older leaves may yellow and drop, and water needs decrease. This isn’t failure — it’s survival mode.
What is normal right now:
- Slower or paused growth
- Drooping that improves after watering
- A few yellow or dropped lower leaves
What’s not normal:
- Mushy stems
- Persistent soggy soil
- Strong odors from the pot
Late winter is not the time to panic-repot, overwater, or fertilize aggressively. It’s the time to observe. Your job right now is to keep conditions stable and trust that spring will do the heavy lifting.
Happy Potting
Because plants don’t need perfection.
