How to Water Plants When Your House Is Bone-Dry

Winter heat keeps us cozy — and completely destroys indoor humidity. If your plants have crispy edges or curling leaves, dryness is often the culprit, not underwatering.

Here’s the trap: dry air feels like the plant needs more water, so we water more… and accidentally rot roots.

Instead, think balance.

Better winter solutions:

• Water thoroughly, then let soil dry appropriately
• Group plants together to raise local humidity
• Use pebble trays or a humidifier nearby

Misting? It’s fine for a quick refresh, but it’s not a long-term fix.

Remember: roots don’t drink air. Overwatering in winter does far more damage than slightly dry soil. If you’re unsure, wait a day. Plants are more forgiving than we think.
